Delhi: For security reasons, the Central Government has stayed the Sikh Sangat going to Lahore to attend Maharishi Ranjit Singh’s anniversary celebrations. This information was given by SGPC general secretary Harcharan Singh. He said that the Center has also said that even if a Sikh wants to go to Pakistan, then the SGPC should allow the interested devotees to go with their responsibilities and roles privately.
He said that the committee has not yet made any further decision on this. The death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh is coming to this day on June 29 and 251 Sikh sangats had to travel to Pakistan from June 21 to 29, to attend these anniversary events. But due to the Center’s ban now it will not be able to go. Sangat’s visa to visit Pakistan is done through the SGPC. Earlier, on 16 June the Sangat, who was going to attend the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth Sikh celebrated in Pakistan, was not even allowed to go for the Darshan.
